5: Reasons I Haven't Been Posting Lately

1. Schoolwork. This whole going-back-to-school thing has meant, well, lots of schoolwork.

2. Commuting. I'm back to driving, which means no time to get stuff done while en route.

3. Work. That's time consuming as well, you see.

4. Socializing. Excuses, excuses, I know, but I've gotta have fun, too.

5. Television. What with all the other stuff going on, it's been tough to keep up with Fall TV, but I'm managing, so don't feel too bad for me, I suppose.

2: Things I've Been Noticing A Lot Lately

These probably make me sound like a flighty moron, but, oh well.

1. Clouds. The pretty, nice-day clouds, that is.They've seemed so much more vibrant lately. Whiter on a bluer sky. More 3-D. More awesomer. It's been enjoyable.

2. Bumper stickers. Are they a trend thing that's back in fashion? I've been seeing a lot more of them lately. All sorts of different ones--schools, vacation spots, political affiliations. It sure makes driving around that much more interesting.

2: Of the Craziest Drivers I've Ever Seen

Crazy as in: looks like a nut job, not crazy as in: dangerous driver. So, last weekend, driving up I95 and coming home from Kings Dominion with friends, we saw two oddly attired drivers.

1. The Haz-Mat suit. I was sitting in the back passenger-side seat and we were driving up the left-hand lane. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw two blue hands gripping the steering wheel of the van we were passing. So, I whipped around (scaring the crap out of everyone else in the car) to catch a better glimpse at the guy. He was wearing full-on body suit with gloves (like footie pajamas for the hands), and, AND a face mask in the haz-mat suit style. Now, there didn't seem to be any toxins outside, so...I'm wondering what the dude had in his car. Or just how unbalanced the dude was. Still: crazy-looking dude driving a van up I95.

2. The Clown outfit. Further along, my friend who was sitting in the front passenger side, says, as we're passing another slow-moving car, "check out that driver!" So, I dutifully turned around, and there was a lady with a huge curly-haired orange wig, big top hat, striped shirt and suspenders, and complete clown face make-up. Talking on her cell phone. I'm assuming she was headed to/from work. But: the complete clown look driving up I95.

5: Websites without which I might suffocate

1. Google, and all of its sub-sites. Gmail, Google homepage, etc. An inordinate amount of my life is supported by this particular habit.

2. Amazon. As much as I love local bookstores (and, boy, do I), Amazon is a big part of my life.

3. Facebook. Yeah, I'm addicted. I'm not proud of it, but it's true.

4. TV Guide. I have to stay connected to the TV world when I'm not glued to the idiot box itself.

5. Wall Street Journal. I dread the inevitable downfall of the great paper it once was, but for now, I still love me some WSJ.

11: My Favorite Phillies at the Moment

I'll do my best to constrain this to logic, but sometimes there's just love for no reason.

1. Tadahito Iguchi. I'm sort of stunned to realize that the guy they got to cover for Utley rocks as hardcore as Iguchi does, but talk about speed, base-running skills, and defense. Utley's back now, but Iguchi is still on fire. I love it.

2. Chase Utley. Back and on top of things. He could not have had a hotter game in his return to the Phils. Plus, he's super cute. (Yes, I used that as an argument.)

3. Ryan Howard. Home runs. Strike outs. He seems to be hitting one of the two lately, but the home runs out-shine the strike outs, in my book. Tuesday's walk-off home run in the 10th was pretty sweet.

4. Aaron Rowand. That 40-foot single on Tuesday was also awesome. Mostly, though, the guy just plays with so much heart, it's inspiring.

5. Chris Coste. Speaking of playing with heart: this guy. He might be the second-string catcher, but he definitely rates in my book. And he contributes when they play him.

6. Jayson Werth. He's no Shane Victorino, despite playing in right field, that's for sure, but as we learned with Iguchi, replacements can rock, too.

7. Pat Burrell. I'll admit, I've been frustrated with him in the past. However, the second half of this season has made me realize why he's on the roster. I had hoped it meant that he'd be trade-able, but now I'm thinking keeping him might not be such a bad idea.

8. Shane Victorino. Talk about speed. And general awesomeness, even if occasionally tripped up by an errant field-side bullpen.

9. Kyle Kendrick. It's rather heartening to see a young pitcher do way better than anyone ever expected him to, simply because he's giving it his all.

10. Jimmy Rollins. C'mon, it's J. Roll. The occasional lead-off home-run just cements what he does for the team, both at the top of the line-up and at shortstop.

11. Harry Kalas. My list, my rules. He might just be an announcer, but I've realized this summer just how much I absolutely adore listening to him call games. I love baseball in and of itself, and I owe that to a lot of people and circumstances. Harry Kalas on the radio makes that list. Plus, his middle name is Norbert. Heh.

3: Re-written, (sort of) Rhyming Rolling Stones Titles

I've been listening to the Rolling Stones lately. I've also been letting my mind wander a lot lately. Put those together, you get the following.

1. Sometimes you cannot acquire/ that which you desire

2. It is not possible/ that I be happy

3. Understanding/ for the Evil Being

7: Distinctly Philadelphia Activities

One of the many joys of moving back to the Philly area is the ability to do these things.

1. Wawa. It is simply not possible for me to overstate my deep, abiding love for Wawa. I...just...that's all I can say. I flipping ADORE me some Wawa. I once considered getting a job there just so I could get a Wawa t-shirt. I'm not even kidding. In fact, there's a vague possibility that I still might do that. Oh, Wawa, I love thee.

2. Listened to KYW radio. It's my morning alarm setting and a sound of my childhood. The traffic-and-transit-on-the-twos, the shore/mountains weather at :28 or :58, the business news at :25 or :55, and the beeps on the half- and whole-hours, among other things, give me confidence that I'll always know what's going on. "Give us 22 minutes and we'll give you the world."

3. Heard Harry Kalas/ listened to the Phillies on the radio/watched a Phillies game on TV/went to a Phillies game just because. While it saddens me to realize just how old Harry Kalas is, it warms my heart and puts an unavoidable smile on my face to hear his voice. If listening to KYW comforts me, listening to the Phillies on the radio/watching them on TV has the power to completely negate any inklings of unhappiness. And heading to the Bank for a game? Awfully close to paradise.

4. Ate a fresh, cheap soft pretzel, followed by a real, actual hoagie, all chased down with a delicious, delightful Tastykake or substitute a cheesesteak for all of that. None of these are exactly exclusive to the fine city of Philadelphia. However, all of them are somehow much, much better here.

5. Heard the "E-A-G-L-E-S Eagles" chant. It comes up a lot at baseball games, actually. I can't say that I understand it, but that's the way it seems to be.

6. Rode on SEPTA. That almost seems like cheating, since it's the Philly area transit system, but it's also pretty much the definition of distinctly Philly activities. I'm a big fan of mass transportation, but I've gotta say, there's nothing all that special about SEPTA. But, again, that's sort of Philly-in-a-nutshell for you.

7. Drove on the Schuykill Expressway and the Blue Route. Not everything is roses and happiness. It can't be argued any other way than that driving on these roads goes with the living-in-the-Philly-region territory. And knowing how to pronounce the first one guarantees that you're a native.

5 :Reasons Why This Weekend Was Awesome

Quickly, before there's another weekend upon us!

1. Phillies game on Friday night. Even though it was incredibly cold (well, at least considering the hot and humid weather earlier in the day), it was awesome. In fact, I rather enjoyed the coldness, as I'd much rather be cold than hot. But, I also had a kick-ass sausage sandwich, peanuts, and lemonade. And the Phillies won. Friday night? Check.

2. Saturday morning ride. DE-lightful. Nice weather, fun trail, well-behaved horse. Very much with the awesome.

3. Saturday afternoon pool party. At a friend's mom's friend's house. I wasn't planning to go swimming, but it was hotter than I'd anticipated, so I tossed on the bathing suit and dove in (literally--no pussy-footing around for me). The water was pretty close to perfect and it was fun and relaxing to lounge around chatting with friends.

4. Dinner with my cousin Saturday evening. I had perhaps the best burger I've ever eaten. We went to Challie's in Kennett Square and I had a Black and Blue burger. It was a burger with Cajun spices (black) and crumbled bleu cheese (blue). And, oh, man, I couldn't've been happier. Until we went to the little Mexican ice cream place down the street, where I had a coconut ice cream cone (for $2!). Neither of them were quite high cuisine, but I was in culinary heaven. Then I hung out with my cousin for a while. 'Twas a lovely evening.

5. Watching the Phillies game at a bar Sunday night. Once again, the Phils won (after losing Saturday night), so that was lovely. There's nothing quite like hanging out with friends/fans, eating, drinking beer, and watching the game on the big screen. The perfect way to bookend the weekend.

Greetings and Salutations: The Prime Number 2

Ahhh, the prime number two. So special--the smallest and the only even prime number. The general idea here is that I don't have a lot of time to post, but more so that I'm a big nerd and like prime numbers. I also enjoy reading quick blurbs (which isn't to say I don't like longer articles, too, just that I appreciate the concise ones, too), so that's an added bonus. So here's the deal: When I'm so moved, I'll post a list of things (interesting, amusing, intriguing, etc.), but only in a prime number. Enjoy!
